The Director Of The Year Awards is the highlight of the Institute of Directors' event calendar. I can share with you some of the highlights as official event photographer for the evening.
This year the venue for the 2019 Director Awards was the Brewery in London. The Brewery provided a unique location in the heart of the City. The stylish blend of historic and modern gave the perfect backdrop to this prestigious awards ceremony.
The outside area and lobby were all carefully decorated. Guests were led to the Porter Tun event room where a meal was to be had, speeches, and the all important awards handed out. This very large space was beautifully set out with great attention to detail.
Maybe in years past the official photographer was the only one who really captured lasting memories of the day. With mobiles at the ready every aspect is recorded by someone! My job was to get great images of those receiving awards, the spectacle, the sponsors and guests, plus a touch of creativity too! One of the main differences is that I am objectively taking photos - documenting the celebration of the awards.
As with previous events my beautiful wife was my assistant and worked the areas downstairs when I was up (and vice versa).
When Karen was not taking photos she was uploading images into the LIVE gallery for guests to download and share. Find out more about the event photography services we offer.
If you have met me you will know that I like to go that extra step to get the most creative image. Seeing a large puddle as we were waiting for guests to arrive, I decided to be creative.
In my mind I could grab a shot of one of the Jaguar cars and make it look as if it was standing on top of water. My efforts did not quite work as the puddle was below a rise in the cobble stones. Still, "A" for effort!
Sir Trevor McDonald (Sir Trev) was the VIP special guest. He arrived in a lovely Jaguar and I promptly took his photo.
The ceremony itself was amazing. Highlights included the food (it was amazing) a video tie in with Prime Minister Boris Johnson from No. 10, and the winners getting their awards!
