Frequently Asked Questions

Have a question that needs answering? I have put together some of my most often asked questions in the hope to set your mind and rest.

I have sectioned questions under topic headings to make it a little easier to navigate:

Session related

Almost every client who comes through my studio doors says something like:
  • “I hate being photographed.”
  • “When I have to look at the camera I just freeze up.”
  • ” I have never had a photo session that I enjoyed."

Trust me, it doesn’t have to be like any of the above statements!
I promise that I will do everything in my power to make you comfortable and happy. I promise to bring understanding and kindness to your shoot and create a great space for you to feel calm, empowered, and ready to not hate the process of being photographed!
I have come to realise that you are most comfortable with the person who you use regularly.

Travel & Expenses

I cover projects across the whole of the beautiful county of Somerset. Including the areas of: Bath, Bridgwater, Burnham-on-Sea and Highbridge, Chard, Clevedon, Crewkerne, Frome, Glastonbury, Keynsham, Midsomer Norton, Minehead, Nailsea, Portishead, Radstock, Shepton Mallet, Street, Taunton, Wellington, Wells, Weston-super-Mare and Yeovil. Of course, I cover Somerton too!

In addition, I work with clients across Devon, Cornwall and Bristol, the South West and across the UK.
I do not charge for travel or expenses within Mainland UK.
A growing number of cities across the UK have introduced charges of various kinds. I travel all over the UK and cover the cost of these expenses. I do not see why you should pay more for your portraits just because you live in a city.
For our international clients I do make a charge for transport and accommodation. This will be agreed with you beforehand and will be 'at cost’.

Working Hours

Normally I am available at your location from 8am until 8pm Monday to Saturday.
For events I work around the clock as many events do not finish until the early hours. For projects that are outside our normal hours please get in contact.

Finance

I take all credit and debit cards, PayPal, ApplePay, and Bank Transfers. I do not accept cheques.
Absolutely not, no way, not ever!. One of the things I despise most is hidden charges or misleadingly small print. You will experience none of that with us! If you have any questions about any part of your session, any of the fees, or anything about the payment schedule, just let me know. The contract you will sign before your session also explains all of these items, and more. As always I am happy to answer any questions.

Booking

Firstly, get in contact via one of the contact forms on this website. I will call you (or email if you prefer) to learn a little more about your requirements. This enables me to help you decide if I am the photographer you are looking for.

If you wish to proceed I will send you a link to my secure site that automatically launches my booking process. The process is to agree and sign your contract online, then make any payment that is required. You will then receive a confirmation email that you are booked!
Yes! A contract protects us both and makes everything clear and above board. Signing your contract is part of my booking process.
As part of my booking process I ask for your 'Portrait Experience' fee, this does not include the cost of prints, wall art or books.
AnsI understand that sometimes things do not go to plan. I try to be as accommodating as possible and will agree a new date that works for us both.wer
We have clients booking for next week, and some 2 or 3 years in advance. Book a day that is best for you. Get in contact and let’s get our diaries together!

Printed Products

We believe that family portraits are meant to be seen and enjoyed by all. There is nothing like a physical print that you can hold and touch.
My clients are looking for ways to present their beautiful portraits. So I offer a range of wall art, including framed prints and canvases. I also offer fine art story books as an elegant and stylish way to display and keep your treasured memories.

For all my fine art prints I use special cotton rag paper and colour pigments (rather than inks) to ensure that your pictures will last. They will look as vibrant in 100 years as they did the day you received them.
Canvases, acrylic and metal prints are sourced from the best craftsmen across Europe. My portrait books are handmade in Italy often using the same techniques handed down from generation to generation.
The most popular products are:
  • Fine art prints on smooth matte heavy cotton rag
  • Framed premium canvas
No.

Editing and Processing

Yes. Photoshop is the modern darkroom.
Here is my philosophy on editing people:
  • I will pose you in such a way as to be most flattering when I take your photo: this makes the biggest difference!
  • I will correct minor blemishes and anything that will not be there in a months time (e.g. spots, small scratches)
  • I will even out your skin tone
  • I will clean your teeth, remove pet hair, reduce fly-away hair and enhance makeup
  • I will remove distractions around you
  • All of this is part of my signature processing style
