Mam Tor

Sunrise Over Mam Tor

Mam Tor is one of the iconic areas of the Peak District. Mam Tor means Mother Hill, partly because of constant landslips in the surrounding area causing 'children' hills, and partly because it is pretty big! The Tor is occasionally called Shivering Mountain. I presume this is because every time I go up to the summit the temperature is low.

The town at the base of the Tor is Castleton and serves as a good starting point to scale the Tor.
