The Buachaille, or more formally Buachaille Etive Mòr, is the mountain that welcomes visitors heading into Glen Etive in the Highlands of Scotland. It’s name means the Herdsman of Etive. It has many nicknames, including red peak.
Buachaille Etive Mòr, or in the Gaelic Èite Mòr, is an essential stop for any photographer heading to this dramatic part of Scotland. In fact it is one of the most photographed scenes in Sotland. It has become so popular that the view from the river (as in this photograph) is becoming badly eroded by volume of traffic.
My journey took me to the Isle of Skye which meant travelling through the famous Glencoe. Buachaille Etive Mòr was my first sight of this beautiful part of the United Kingdom.
The most famous side of Buachaille Etive Mòr (I think because you can see it from the A82 road) is the steep, craggy north-eastern face of Stob Dearg. This is the highest peak, there are three other main tops which are just as amazing. Stob Dearg and Stob na Bròige are classed as Munros, with their lower siblings Stob na Doire and Stob Coire Altruim completing the set.
