All Saints Church South Wingfield Derbyshire

This 12th century church is the parish church of the little Derbyshire village of South Wingfield.

The church is famous because the yard regularly floods in winter. This leaves the Grade II listed building standing surrounded by a lake of flood water from the River Amber. The flooding is really bad the whole local area is under water.

South Wingfield is an ancient parish, "in the union of Belper, hundred of Scarsdale, N. division of the county of Derby". Oakerthorpe and the hamlets of Moorwood Moor, Wingfield Park and Uftonfields were included within the parish bounds. Today All Saints works with the parish church at nearby Crich.

South Wingfield is a small ex-mining village community with its most famous feature, Wingfield Manor standing in ruins just outside the village boundary.
