Alport Castles. The rocky outcrops of the High Peak hide hidden gems for the more courageous traveller.
Image of the dramatic rock formation called The Tower, at Alport Castles in the High Peak area of the Peak District.
Alport Castles are part of the National Park that is rather out of the way, but is worth the effort to see this amazing place. To get to the general area hike up from Ladybower Reservoir and the River Alport to Alport Valley.
To walk goes up from the A57 (Snake Pass) to Hagg Farm. Continue up the cobbled path through the forest until you reach open land and the National Trust have laid a clearly marked path.
The walk takes about an hour each way from Hagg Farm and gets quite windy nearer the top. Stick to the paved slabs further up as the surrounding fields are very boggy.
